Mike Barber completed a Fitting and Turning apprenticeship at Tubemakers BTM Division in Adelaide SA in 1985
Tubemakers made many precision components for the Automotive industry for Holden, Ford, Toyota,Mitsubishi etc
Then moving into the BTM Prototype and R @ D departments, worked on many projects for Automotive and Defence .
The main focus was automotive steering column prototype manufacture and testing, including ADR 10 Sled testing of Energy Absorbing Steering Columns, press tool design and manufacture, CNC programing of lathe and milling machines , tube mandrel bending, jig and fixture design etc.
A couple of years were then spent working in Bundy Tubing Division on the BTM site, then moving on to AIR International / Futuris Corporation who took over steering column manufacture from BTM in 1993, working then till 2008 on the prototyping of steering components, automotive seat frames etc
In January 2009 Mike Barber started Racetech Engineering at Thebarton SA - manufacturing components for the mining industry , Automotive aftermarket , Motorsport , Vehicle and Antique Restoration, food, Architectural and General Engineering Industries.
